YOUR ENGINEER, FROM THE FIRST CONVERSATION

I help you make sense of the problem.

My career has taken me from construction sites to designing buildings, then investigating why they develop problems. I bring that experience to helping you understand yours, without expecting you to make sense of the technical details alone.

Much like your GP, we start by understanding the concern, investigate what may be behind it and explain what needs to happen next. Sometimes that means prompt action; other times, improvements and monitoring help us decide whether major repairs are needed.

I’d like to build a lasting relationship with you, so you have someone to turn to who understands your home and its history.

WHEN SOMETHING DOESN’T LOOK RIGHT

You can see the damage.
The harder part is
knowing what it means.

Perhaps the cracks have returned after patching. A door is sticking. The floor feels uneven. Or a building report has raised a concern you need to understand before making a decision.

01

Concerned about your own home?

Understand the significance of the concerns identified, what may be contributing and which actions deserve priority.

02

Buying a property?

Get engineering advice on the structural concerns raised, including the next steps and any uncertainty that matters to your decision. Tell us your deadline when you enquire.

03

Already been told you need major repairs?

Understand what the proposed work is intended to address and whether the available evidence supports it. We assess the reasoning rather than automatically accepting or dismissing a repair recommendation.

EVIDENCE BEFORE INTERVENTION

Investigate first.
Recommend what
the findings support.

Discuss your concern

Think of the process like a visit to your GP: start with the history, examine what is happening and decide whether further checks are needed. Some concerns call for prompt action. Others benefit from appropriate improvements, monitoring and a review before a major intervention is justified.

For your building, that means we do not select a repair from a crack alone. Where it is safe and appropriate, we explore practical improvements and useful follow-up before recommending major structural work.

THE RIGHT WORK, AT THE RIGHT TIME

The right work matters. So does the timing.

Repairs carried out before the cause or continuing movement is understood can lead to repeated work. Delaying an issue that needs attention can also allow damage to progress. Our advice helps you consider both what is justified and when it should happen.

Discuss your concern
  1. 01

Tell us what you have noticed

Share your main concern and any deadline. Previous reports, repair history and photographs are helpful, but you do not need to have everything ready to enquire.

  2. 02

    Agree the scope before booking

We clarify the question you need answered, propose the appropriate assessment and confirm the fee, inclusions and timing.

  3. 03

    Investigate and document

We assess the accessible areas relevant to the agreed scope, record the findings and explain any limitations or need for further information. Identified urgent concerns take priority.

  4. 04

    Work through the findings

We explain the report and the reasons for the recommendations, including what is established, what still needs checking and whether a follow-up would be useful.

MORE THAN A SINGLE REPORT

A case history
for your property.

We want to build a long-term relationship, not simply deliver a report. We keep your property’s history, so later reviews build on what is already known.

When no structural repair is recommended immediately but change needs checking, we explain what to monitor and what should prompt earlier contact.

WORKING ALONGSIDE YOU

Engineering support
for the people advising,
designing and building.

Alongside our work with homeowners and homebuyers, we help building professionals and other experts make sense of engineering evidence and move their projects forward.

Property managers and buyer’s agents

Clear assessments of structural concerns, practical recommendations and an explanation of what remains uncertain, so you have a sound basis for advising your client.

Other experts and advisers

Clearly explained technical findings for your assessment or advice. Tell us the intended use of the report so we can confirm a suitable scope from the outset.

Our findings are guided by the engineering evidence, regardless of who commissions the assessment.

A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Questions before
you enquire.

Start with what you know.
We’ll help you work out the next step.

Discuss your concern
Do I need an engineer or a general building inspection?

They serve different purposes. A general inspection can identify a broad range of building concerns. An engineering assessment investigates the structural questions within its agreed scope. Send us the concern or existing report, and we’ll explain where our input may help.

Can you tell what is wrong from photographs?

Photos help us understand the enquiry and propose a scope, but they do not replace an assessment. A visual inspection also has limits: concealed conditions may need further investigation. It is not a blanket certification that the whole property is safe.

Will you recommend underpinning or relevelling?

Only where the findings support that approach. Major repairs are not our starting assumption, but we will not rule them out when they are needed. We can consider an existing recommendation alongside the evidence from your property.

What will the assessment cost?

We provide a written quote based on the property, location, concern and required deliverables. Your proposal explains the scope, fee including GST and payment terms. Any additional testing, design or follow-up work is agreed separately.

How quickly can you inspect and provide a report?

Tell us the date you need the information and why it matters, especially for a property purchase or planned repairs. We confirm availability and the expected delivery timeframe before you book.

What if the recommendation is to monitor rather than repair?

You should understand the reason for monitoring, what needs to be recorded, when to review it and what changes should prompt earlier advice. It is a defined decision-making step, not simply being told to “keep an eye on it”.

Can the report help with an insurance claim or dispute?

Tell us the intended use before booking so we can confirm the appropriate investigation and reporting scope. We explain the engineering findings; we cannot guarantee insurance cover, a payment or a particular finding of legal responsibility.

Where do you work?

We are based in Melbourne and provide services across Victoria. Let us know the property location so we can confirm suitability, access arrangements and any travel costs in the proposal.
